Zachary loves teaching and mentoring musicians and composers. He enjoys working with a wide range of students regardless of age, experience, and ability. He’s a proud middle school band director at the Chicago Waldorf School and a doctoral candidate in clarinet performance at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music where he mentors first year clarinet majors. Alongside the musicians of Eighth Blackbird, he was Visiting Instructor at the University of Richmond during the 2019–20 academic year. Zachary has presented masterclasses on the clarinet, bass clarinet, contrabass clarinet, chamber music, and contemporary techniques at institutions across the US, including Portland State University, Gettysburg College, University of North Carolina at Greensboro, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Northwestern University, University of Oklahoma, and University of Richmond.

Zachary is available for private lessons (clarinet, bass clarinet, and Baroque recorders), masterclasses, and composer sessions. He has worked closely with many composers (including Katherine Young, Bethany Younge, Ayanna Woods, Sam Scranton, Ben Lamar Gay, Peter Kramer, Natacha Diels, among others) over the years to provide essential feedback on developing material/new pieces for the clarinet, assistance with multiphonics (especially dyad multiphonics), and general advice on writing for the clarinet. Additionally he has premiered and commissioned dozens of new works for the clarinet and recorder. He is a composer and arranger himself.
