ZRL
ZRL (zurl: Zachary Good, Ryan Packard, and Lia Kohl) is a clarinet, cello, and percussion/electronics trio focused on the nuances of timbre, and sonic landscape. Not adhering to any specific genre, the trio draws material from both free and structured improvisation, exploring the balance point where their sound-worlds tangle and collide. Each member of the group practices a variety of different musical styles, from jazz to indie rock to classical, all of which are folded into their collective improvisatory work. ZRL has recorded two albums, one in 2015 (ZRL, on No Index Records) and another in 2018 (Physics for Listeners, with Homeroom Chicago). The trio has performed around Chicago at venues such as Elastic Arts, Constellation Chicago, Hungry Brain, High Concept Labs, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago.
